Melanie is a Registered Psychotherapist and a Professional Art Therapist (Canadian Art Therapy Association). She holds a Master of Counselling: Art Therapy Specialization from Athabasca University and the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. Melanie works from a client-centered, trauma-informed approach that emphasizes the power of an empathic, therapeutic relationship to support clients in achieving their goals. Her goal is to provide a safe, inclusive space where clients feel heard and open to exploring the possibility of change and growth.

“Melanie provides individual therapy to children, youth, and adults, addressing struggles such as anxiety, depression, struggles at school and/or with the legal system, emotion regulation, self-esteem, trauma, family conflict, grief, and distressing thoughts. She uses a variety of techniques, tailored to each client, and built on the foundation of a safe, compassionate, and collaborative relationship. These techniques include cognitive-behavioural therapy, emotion-focused strategies, motivational interviewing, art therapy, and others dependent on the needs of the client. Melanie has worked in the helping professions for over 10 years in a combination of residential, community and private practice settings and has a significant knowledge of and relationships with the non-profit and community sectors in Ottawa. Melanie’s services are covered by most insurance companies under the supervision of Dr Michelle Presniak.
